How to make fork biscuits

To make simple fork biscuits you just need butter, sugar and self raising flour although you can add a little vanilla for extra flavour if you want to. You can also use plain flour if you like with just a little baking powder or baking soda added to give the cookies a nice rise.

Can you vary this recipe?

As well as adding vanilla, you can add other flavours to these easy fork biscuits – lemon zest or orange zest for a fruity tang or some cocoa powder in place of a little flour to make chocolate fork biscuits. You could also sandwich the biscuits with some buttercream or frosting in the middle.

You could also add chocolate chips, raisins or other dried fruit to make delicious sweet treats using what you have to hand and to suit your family’s tastes.

We love making these cookies together at the kitchen table, all sharing the tasks and making them together. Baking is such a nice activity to do together as a family and it’s a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon tea. There really is nothing quite like a family home full of the smell of freshly baked cookies.
